How to see who doesn't follow you back on Instagram (without giving anyone your password)

Open Instagram on a computer, run the free FollowAudit script from your browser console, and start an audit. It loads who you follow and who follows you, then lists every account that doesn't follow you back. It needs no password, app or extension, and nothing leaves your browser.

How to see who doesn't follow you back on Instagram, step by step

Copy the script, open instagram.com on a computer while logged in, paste it into the browser console and press Enter. Then start the audit and open the “Don’t follow you back” list. It can take a few minutes on a large account, and nothing on your account changes until you confirm it.

  1. Copy the scriptOn the FollowAudit page, select Copy script. Nothing is installed: the script is only copied to your clipboard.
  2. Open Instagram on a computerGo to instagram.com in Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari and log in as you normally do. Phones can't run it, because mobile browsers have no developer console.
  3. Open the browser consolePress F12, or Cmd + Option + J on a Mac, and choose the Console tab.
  4. Paste the script and press EnterPaste with Ctrl + V (Cmd + V on a Mac) and press Enter. Chrome may ask you to type “allow pasting” the first time. The FollowAudit panel then opens beside Instagram.
  5. Start the auditSelect Start audit. FollowAudit reads who you follow and who follows you, page by page, and matches them inside your browser. Large accounts take longer.
  6. Open “Don’t follow you back”This view lists every account you follow that does not follow you back. Search it, protect the accounts you want to keep, or export it as a CSV file.

Can you see who doesn't follow you back without an app or your password?

Yes. You can compare your Following and Followers lists by hand, which works for a few dozen accounts. For anything larger, a script that runs inside your own logged-in browser tab can do the comparison for you, with no app to install and no password to hand over to anyone.

Can I check by hand?

Open your profile, then Following and Followers, and compare the two lists name by name. Instagram's own data download also includes both lists as files you can compare in a spreadsheet; where it sits in the menu changes, so check Instagram's Help Center. Doing it by hand is free and private, but slow and easy to get wrong on a large account.

Do I have to give an app my Instagram password?

Not for this. Apps and websites that ask you to log in with your Instagram username and password get full access to that login, so you have to trust everything they do with it. FollowAudit never asks for it. It runs in the Instagram tab where you are already logged in, and it sends your lists to no server.

Why paste a script into the browser console?

Running inside the page means no extension permissions, no app login and no server in the middle. The trade-off is trust, so FollowAudit is open source under the MIT license and you can read every line on GitHub before you run it.

Can I do this on my phone?

No. Mobile browsers don't offer a developer console, so you need a desktop browser such as Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari.

What can I do once I see who doesn't follow me back?

Review the list first. You can search it, protect accounts you want to keep, export it as a CSV file, or select accounts to unfollow. Unfollows only start after you confirm, run one at a time with pauses, and never include protected accounts, so nothing changes by accident.

How do I see who unfollowed me on Instagram?

After each audit, FollowAudit saves your follower list in your browser, and the next audit compares against it. The first audit has nothing to compare with, so the “Unfollowed you” list starts working from your second audit. You can clear this history at any time in Settings.

How do I keep some accounts safe from being unfollowed?

Select Protect on an account. Protected accounts are saved in your browser, can be backed up as a JSON file, and are blocked from every action queue.

Can I unfollow everyone who doesn't follow me back at once?

You can select many accounts, but the queue is slow on purpose: one account at a time, a configurable delay between actions, a break after every five, and a time-left estimate. It stops by itself if Instagram refuses a request or after repeated failures, and it never retries an unfollow.

Is it safe? Risks to know before you run it

FollowAudit is built to be gentle, but no tool is risk-free. It uses private Instagram web endpoints that can change without notice, Instagram's terms restrict automated access, and nobody can promise your account will never be limited or banned. Use it at your own risk.

  • Private endpointsFollowAudit relies on private Instagram web endpoints, not an official API. They can change or stop working at any time, and the script may break without warning.
  • Instagram's termsInstagram's terms of use restrict automated access to the service. Running any script against your account, this one included, is a risk you take.
  • No guarantee against bansNo tool can promise your account will not be limited or banned. FollowAudit reads lists page by page, runs unfollows one at a time with pauses and no automatic retries, and stops when Instagram pushes back. That lowers the risk; it does not remove it.
  • The code runs in your sessionA console script can do anything your logged-in tab can do. Only paste code you trust, and read it first. FollowAudit is MIT-licensed and open on GitHub. Never paste a script a stranger sends you.
  • Go slowly with unfollowsStart with a few accounts, keep the default delays, and stop if Instagram shows a warning or a challenge.
